Univers & Adrian Frutiger

Univers is unique because it is a font family that consists of 44 faces, 16 uniquely numbered weight, width, and position combination. 8 fonts support Central European character and 8 support Cyrillic Character. There are 20 fonts that have oblique positions.
The numbering system eliminates naming and specifying confusion. The number in a font is concatenation of two numbers. The first set defines weight and the second defines width and position.

Adrian Frutiger is one of the most famous and well known typeface designers. He designed an abundance of different typefaces that influence modern artists today. He was born on March 24, 1928 in Switzerland and during his youth observed and practiced with a variety of personally created types and handwritings. At a young age he became an apprentice to a printer in his home town and from there moved to Zurich to attend Zurich School of Arts and Crafts. His success in his career began early after Charles Peigot (president of the type foundry Deberny & Peignot) observed Frutiger's natural talent and offered him a job in Paris at the company post graduation. Soon after leaving D & P, Frutiger opened his own business just outside of Paris.
During his time at D & P he created some of the earliest typefaces including the 21-member Univers Family.
